THE RENÉ BONNET DJET N°46

This sport car concept became reality when the DJET number 46 passed the finish line at Le Mans legendary endurance race in June 24th, 1962.

THE FIRST REAR MID-ENGINED
PRODUCTION SPORTS CAR
The DJET made wide use of the then emerging fiberglass technology; an engineering domain in which René Bonnet was a pioneer.
After the Le Mans racing “proof of concept”, few months later at the 1962 Paris Auto Show, the DJET became the world's first rear mid-engined production sports car, respectively 4 and 6 years before the Lamborghini Miuria and the Dino 246 GT de Ferrari.

TACHYMETER:
MEASURE AN AVERAGE SPEED
How to use the tachymeter to measure the average speed of a car between two points at 0km (A) and 1km (B)?
1. When the car passes the point A, start timing with the bezel by placing the 12:00 o'clock arrow of the bezel at the time the second hand is / was.
2. When the car passes the point B, read the elapsed time in seconds on the bezel. For instance, 20s.
3. Rotate back the bezel to 0 and read on the tachymeter scale the speed matching the elapsed time from step 2. For instance, if a car passed the point B at 20s you can read 180km/h on the tachymeter scale, so the car had an average speed of 180km/h between the point A and the point B.

HESALITE GLASS: THE PRO’S CHOICE
From the 1960s and earlier, armed forces around the world along with NASA issued wrist-watches secured with Hesalite glasses to service men, pilots and astronauts. Why? Hesalite offers high transparency, strong impact resistance and do not shatter like glass or sapphire would.
To this day, above or under the ocean, in a cockpit, or even in space, the possibility of having tiny bits of glass floating around or having the face of the watch exposed to the elements is considered an unnecessary risk and a direct threat to mission success.
